"Play is how children experience their world and bring meaning to it. It models the social frame work that builds relationships for life and kindles imagination. Play gives children the chance, in a world where so many carry heavy burdens, to simply be children. It is through play that children learn best."~ CCCF
I believe there many ways that young children learn. Children learn a lot from being with other people, being active, exploring and new experiences, talking to themselves and to others and the biggest way they learn is through PLAY! Play is how a children learn to make sense of the world around them. Through play children develop social and cognative skills, gain self confidence and engage in new experiences. Children possess a natural curiosity to explore and playing gives them a way to do so. This is why I love to take the children out to play in different places in our beautiful city, giving them the ablility to learn so much more about themselves and this wonderful world around them! In my care the children get open ended play many times throughout the day along with some structured times like circle time where we sing songs, practice our ABC's and counting, we also have some crafts that are structured where others are not. Most mornigs we head out around 9am to start our daily adventure! We adventure to parks, beaches, landmarks, trails, museums, kindergyms and so much more! Also once a week we attend a scheduled private Gymnastics class at Victoria Gymnastics!!! We also love our indoor playtime at the daycare facility as well because when children play with blocks, sand, and water, they are learning
the basis of logical and mathematical thinking, scientific reasoning, and
cognitive problem-solving. And during group play activities with their peers,
children are building relationships, combining ideas, compromising, developing
oral narratives, and learning to take the perspective of others! My role in children learning through play is to provide them with the appropriate space and play things to stimulate their minds, to show them how to use the playthings safely and to intervene when appropriate and provide them with support and guidance AND of coarse to get down and play with them!!!!
